Administrative duties include serving as the county’s jailor, submitting a budget of his office to the Board of Supervisors, keeping Mississippi Department Reports, and keeping a jail docket. The Sheriff is elected at-large and serves a four-year term. The Sheriff is responsible for the physical health and welfare of all inmates in the jail and the management of their property. The office serves criminal warrants, civil papers, and subpoenas; executes evictions; transports prisoners to court; extradites prisoners from other states to court; and provides security for Athens-Clarke County jail and courthouse. The Clarke County Sheriff’s Office provides fair, unbiased law enforcement services to the public while respecting the constitutional rights of individuals.
